How will you get the items to the Bahamas?
After we sort, categorize and inventory the items at our Florida facilities, the manifests for the shipments will be provided to Food for the Poor. Food for the Poor will arrange transportation and custom clearance to either ship those items via commercial flights or container shipments to Nassau, Bahamas.
Food for the Poor established partnerships with local partners in the Bahamas incl. NEMA (Government of The Bahamas | National Emergency Management Agency) and Sandals Resorts to get the items via boats from Nassau to the other islands and the recipients.

Will the donations really go to the Bahamas?

Did you start your partnership with Food for the Poor recently?
No, we have partnered with Food for the Poor over the last 15 years and shipped over 50 million pounds of relief goods. The geographic focus of our partnership are the following 17 Latin and Caribbean countries: Haiti, Jamaica, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Saint Vincent, Grenada, Antigua, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Saint Lucia and Colombia.
During 2018 we shipped 189 forty-foot containers and in 2019 we have already shipped 137 forty-foot containers. Each container holds up to 40,000 pounds of relief goods.
The partnership allows for Harvest Time International to concentrate on gathering, sorting and inventorying of loads while Food for the Poor focuses on distribution in the recipient country and vetting and establishing networks to assure the donated items get to the designated recipients.

Yes, we are very thankful if you organize drives and deliver those items to one of our locations.

About Hurricane Dorian
Hurricane Dorian made landfall in the Bahamas on Sunday, September 1st as a Category 5 hurricane and one of the strongest Atlantic hurricanes on record. It stalled there for 3 days wreaking havoc and destroying homes and businesses. The depth of the destruction in the Bahamas is becoming more clear as rescue workers are finally able to reach the most devastated areas. The official death toll now stands at 30, but is expected to rise quickly as the search and rescue efforts continue. Bahamian Prime Minister Hubert Minnis said Dorian left "generational devastation" and is asking for prayers for families of the deceased. There are no official estimates of the number of people displaced by the storm, but in Marsh Harbour, as many as 2,000 people were seeking shelter in a clinic and a government complex. For more than 60,000 survivors, the prospect of food and water shortages are very real.
We are responding by engaging our community and corporate partners to give product donations and financial donations toward relief efforts.
We have joined with our longtime partner, Food for the Poor, who is coordinating relief efforts in the Bahamas in conjunction with their recipient organizations and local government officials. Thank you for your generosity as we support those in need.
